Short Story Writing Workshop – Mukalla

On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the Literature Department at the Hadhramout Culture Foundation concluded its Short Story Writing Workshop in the city of Mukalla. The workshop, held from July 24 to 26, brought together a group of aspiring writers under the guidance of Dr. Taha Hussein Al-Hadhrami.

The workshop reflects the department’s commitment to supporting and nurturing young literary talents, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to grow and excel. It forms part of the foundation’s broader mission to foster cultural and literary activity in Hadhramout.

Over the course of the sessions, participants explored the artistic foundations of short story writing, learning how to plan and structure their stories through intensive practical exercises aimed at drafting and refining their work. They also engaged with selected works by renowned Arab and international short story writers, gaining valuable insights into the craft.

The workshop further shed light on essential aspects of storytelling, such as narrative voice and point of view, while offering focused training on writing effective beginnings, climaxes, and endings. In doing so, it aimed to expand the writers’ vision, deepen their language, and enhance their expressive power in the art of the short story.
