The Ministry of Endowments, the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, together with the Hadhramout Foundation, concluded today the First Yemeni Forum for Quranic Calligraphy on Thursday, 6th Muharram 1444 AH (August 4, 2022), at Al-Madina Palace Hall in Tarim, Hadramout. The event was attended by prominent national figures, academics, and a wide audience of enthusiasts.
The ceremony opened with verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by remarks from Dr. Abdelqader Ba‘eesi, Advisor to the Founding Council and a member of the Foundation’s Literature Department. He welcomed the attendees and expressed his gratitude to the participating ministries for their support in ensuring the forum’s success, as well as to the calligraphers for their dedication and mastery of this revered art, which has long held a distinguished place in Arab and Islamic heritage. Dr. Ba‘eesi further emphasized the Foundation’s awareness of the cultural and artistic significance of this tradition.
Mr. Mo‘een Al-Turuk, Director of the Memorization Sector at the Ministry of Endowments, conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Endowments, noting that the minister had closely followed the forum from its inception to its conclusion. He highlighted Hadramout’s emerging role as a cultural beacon, with this forum serving as clear testimony.
Similarly, Mr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Sha‘bi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, relayed the greetings of Minister Muammar Al-Eryani and praised the participating calligraphers, as well as the Hadramout Foundation for organizing such an event.
In his remarks, Mr. Zaki Al-Hashimi, Forum Supervisor, noted that Yemen is the third Arab country to host a Quranic calligraphy competition—an honor in itself—while urging the Foundation to continue investing in the preservation and promotion of Arabic calligraphy.
On behalf of the calligraphers, Mr. Abdullah Al-Bahr delivered an address in which he welcomed the attendees and extended thanks to all those who contributed to the forum’s success.
The program also featured a poem by the poet Wajdi Bahreesh and a traditional nasheed performance. The ceremony concluded with the Hadramout Foundation being honored by both ministries, while the ministries, the winning calligraphers, and supporting institutions were likewise recognized by the Foundation
