A commemorative gift was presented to the United Nations in New York—a painting depicting the historic city of Shibam in Yemen’s Hadhramout region—to be displayed at the UN Headquarters in New York. The presentation was made on behalf of the Republic of Yemen in the presence of Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak, Minister of Foreign Affairs for Expatriates, with funding from the Hadhramout Culture Foundation, in line with the Foundation’s mission to promote, enrich, and share local heritage with the world.

The city of Shibam stands as a timeless and enchanting example of Yemen’s cultural heritage, preserved in its stunning original form, reflecting the depth and diversity of our nation’s history.

This exquisite artwork, captured by photographer Alaa Askoul, was prepared and adorned by Atif Al-Saadi, a local artist from the city. Its frame is intricately decorated with traditional motifs and geometric plant-inspired patterns drawn from natural elements, reflecting fundamental principles of life, narrating stories, and conveying the cultural and religious beliefs of the Hadhrami people.
